A fun few days.

On Monday and Tuesday, 7/20 and 7/21 Sherry and I, and our intern Nicole (did you know we have an intern this summer) headed to Chicago for 2 days of hands on training with one of the wedding videographer industry’s best.  Well at least Sherry and Nicole trained with Jeff.  I was there on behalf of EventDV Magazine writing and article about the workshop and chronicling all Nicole and Sherry learn.

It was a great few days of hands on learning for the participants.  Even though I didn’t have a video camera to practice all they were learning I gleaned a few ideas to implement and use with my camera.  Nicole and Sherry had a great time and are all excited to try a few new things.  They both commented that we needed to schedule a practice day so in a few weeks we are going to take a model in a wedding dress out and about and have a little fun making a bridal spotlight video.

If you want to see a sample of a bridal spotlight video you can see one as the opening video on Jeff’s website at www.blueskiescinema.com  Jeff has some crazy skills and abilities as you see in the video.  During the class the participants practiced camera techniques to get shots that will give their footage a more cinematic look and feel.  We have a model bride and practiced ceremony and reception techniques to improve our footage.  After working on that all morning and early afternoon it was off with our model bride to scenic locations around Chicago where the participants could get footage for their own bridal spotlight video.  We were at a hostoric windmill on Monday evening and then downtown Chicago all day Tuesday.  The fun part for me was seeing all the people on the streets of Chicago stopping to watch it all.  Lots of questions by the onlookers as  you can imagine.  Here are some pics from the 2 days so you can see what we were up to.  By the way….if you are a bride/customer and would like to do something like this either before or after your wedding contact us.  We would love to shoot a few of these.

This image I took just cause it was so pretty

Something different and fun.

On Thursday morning, 7/9/09 I had a chance to do something really cool.  I have been interested in and dabbled with  RC airplanes for a long time.  Recently a friend has been teaching me to fly and even gave me and plane to learn on.  Well in his spare time he has been helping a local pilot/builder assemble and amazing RC plane.

As you can see in the above picture it is a beautiful plane.  What you can’t see is how big it is.  This thing has a 15 foot wingspan.  It was crazy big.  You can get a feel for it’s size in these images.

Of course I was there with video camera in hand to film the  maiden flight of the biplane named Jenny.  You can see me in the background of one of those shots.  Anyway if you want to see a picture gallery of the day you can here.  The thread on the RC forum actually documents the builf of the plane from day one to the maiden flight if you are interested in reading the history.  Thanks to my friend Clayton for the pics and thanks to the guys from MARCS that let me hang out for the day….you may just see me joining pretty soon.

Here’s the video I created of the maiden flight of Jenny.  It was truly a unique thing to watch.  What fun.  Now to go fly my little trainer plane with 36″ foam wings….guess you gotta start somewhere.  Maybe I will get someone to make a video of me flying someday.

A fun Same Day Edit

Well it was kind of a Same Day Edit (SDE).  It was more like a 2 week edit.  Here’s what happened.  Tyler and Tanya got married on June 7th in Milwaukee and the Boerner Botanical Gardens.  Tanya booked us for her wedding video early last year.  Turned out we had filmed her brothers wedding a few years back right here in Stoughton.  I also found out Tyler actually grew up right across the street from where we live.

The day of their wedding had a forecast of clouds and possible rain.  As the day progressed and got closer to the start of the ceremony the skies cleared and it was a gorgeous Wisconsin spring day.  The ceremony was beautiful set in the gardens as you can see in the above image.  However the real fun was after the ceremony.  Oh man did we have fun.  We laughed all the time but  had to stop so we could film.

Here’s where it got crazy.  Normally we edit a SDE real romantic and cinematic.  These people were too much fun for romantic cinematic….what to do what to do…..have some fun that’s what.  Sherry reminded me if a song I edited to a few years ago that was basically the same song do romantic slow and then dance fast.  It was perfect.  Their 2 week edit ended up being about half romantic and half fun.  It was a little different but since we didn’t have to get it done in 4 hours we had some flexibility.

Your  probably wondering why it was a 2 week edit.  Well their wedding was in 6/7/09 but their reception was back here in Stoughton on 6/20/09.  Technically that makes it a 13 day edit but close enough to call 2 weeks.  :-)

Well as you can see by the following edit they were loads of fun.  I give you Tyler and Tanya’s 2 Week Edit (2WE?)
